A veteran reporter of the Gazette, Lampini has taken to strangling local citizens at night as a way of dealing with various mid-life problems.
Unfortunately for Lampini, those problems include carpal tunnel syndrome, diabeties and arthritis, which has lead to several victims getting away.
To make matters worse, a second serial killer, the "Scranton Slasher," has been outshining him with more kills, and even killing his escaped stranglees.
Lampini finally managed to kill the Slasher, but since he strangled him, wasn't able to collect the $100,000 reward.
To add insult to injury, his co-worker, Tim Zachery, gets honored for reporting on the serial killers, so Robert kills him.
